Unveiled amid zero fanfare, the Grand certainly lives up to its
moniker thanks to a five-inch display, though not so much beyond that
considering the fairly pedestrian WVGA (480 x 800) resolution it comes
at with an equally unimpressive 187 PPI.
Still, at a cursory glance the Grand looks almost exactly alike its
high-end cousins and it features a bulk of the same software that made
those devices so great in the first place, such as Android Jelly Bean
(4.1.2) installed out of the box, Smart Alert, Pop-up Play, Multi-View
and more.
That’s not to say the Grand is a total slouch in the specs department. The inclusion of an eight-megapixel rear snapper and a two-megapixel front-facer is decent by any standard, while the 1.2GHz dual core chipset should pack enough brawn to handle most tasks and apps with aplomb.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and HPSA+. Although there’s only 8GB of internal storage, that’s expandable via the microSD slot. Last but not least, a 2,100mAh battery is on board to keep the lights on.
There’ll be two versions of the Grand: a regular, single SIM model, and a dual SIM model that’s most likely aimed for the international market. Availability and pricing details have not been revealed yet but these’ll probably be revealed at CES in January if not sooner.
Stay tuned for more Galaxy Grand announcements and gen as we get them.
